Silent begging without pride

Dear Editor, Re: P.M’s village bestows title This story is a silent example of begging without pride. Do you have to give away centuries of cultural, traditions and your lineage to bring business and employment?

Why the Minister is wrong

Dear Editor, Interesting reading Minister Loau’s comments. The Minister should know better if he has this office about the causes and the solutions of this problem. He completely contradicts all tested theories about the issue.

Dr. Khulmann, your views are too ethnocentric and prejudiced

Dear Dr. Khulmann, People choose to believe in what they deem as ‘believable’. So if L.D.S. Missionaries go about their business proselytizing in the streets of Apia using a belief system alien to yours ...then welcome to the real world . Who cares if the L.D.S are not a member of the World Council of Churches?

Best method to use

Re: S.W.A’s original sin It is not good business practice to publicize customers names with accounts in arrears. The S.W.A. can reduce its accounts receivable and to improve its cash flow by using a ‘simple and effective’ method.

Chaotic state of U.S. politics

Re: Don’t shoot the messenger, Mr. President! Nice editorial. There’s a lot to digest and to make sense of the current “pandemonium” and chaotic state of politics in the US. There is definitely quite a different mood and attitude in the country right now.

Samoa Water Authority’s original sin

Dear Editor, The Samoa Water Authority has done one thing right; they published the names of some delinquent account holders not withstanding their social prominence. Well done, SWA! The Rock will not

Re: Should Seiuli back Super rugby team? Nope...He’s strictly NFL and NCAA. And looking at the anti-Americanism that is spreading throughout the world recently, I’d say that he’d be more prone to be defensive about compromising American sporting culture with Commonwealth of Nations Rugby and Rugby League.

Thought provoking

Re: Christian principles, Samoan customs and “six million Jews” Interesting and definitely thought provoking. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, our current prophet Russel M. Nelson revealed in the last General Conference that we are not “Mormons”, we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ as that is the true name of the church as it was restored by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1830.

Why such a team will not work

Dear Editor, Re: Campaign calls on the Rock I don’t think a team backed by NFL players and entertainers in the US of Pacific island heritage makes any sense. For one, the financial cost and burden to support a team continuously is not a trivial matter, and these sports stars and personalities would be asked to risk theirs and their family’s own financial futures in a venture they probably have only a passing interest in.

Cruise Tourism, Fiji elections and APEC in PNG

Apia played host to another cruise ship and its passengers of tourists yesterday morning — the second vessel to visit our shores in five days. The word at Matautu wharf yesterday is that another cruise ship is due in Apia today, which if true would make it vessel # 3 in six days. Apia residents would probably be unfazed with the increasing regularity of visiting cruise ships, but ask a tourism expert and they would probably make reference to “cruise tourism”.

Yes means stress

Think a minute…Are you a “yes man” or woman? Do you always say yes to everybody who asks you for a favor or help? Some of us just cannot say no to others. The problem is our “yes” sometimes means stress—to us and our family.

Myths and Legends of the Ancient World

The spears flew towards the youth on the hill, whistling as they cut through the air. Grinning, Queen Medb’s general drew his sword, eager to take back to his Queen the head of this warrior whom they called the Hound of Ulster. He had no doubt his spears would find their mark.
