The official local agent of Samsung products has assuaged fear of Samsung washing machines being recalled in North America due to malfunction.

Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B) Marketing Manager, Asia Alosio Stanley, yesterday assured that the top loader washer recall does not include the line of products in their store.

The Marketing Manager said their priority is their customers and had made sure that they get the best quality products they need and the service they require.

He explained when the recall report came out last weekend on Saturday it brought much concern to the public as well as the people especially consumers of Samsung washing machines.

“S.S.A.B. instantly contacted Samsung N.Z. for a letter of clarification on the recall aroused from the Samsung washing machines in America if the washing machines available here (S.S.A.B) are affected in the recall,” said Stanley.

“S.S.A.B. received the letter on Monday from Ryan Jolly of Pacific Islands Area Manager for Samsung that clarified the recall was only for washing machines sold in America and Canada that was affected…the Samsung washing machines sold at S.S.A.B. were safe and secure.”

Stanley pointed out that they speak for their store only and cannot guarantee other white wares sold in other stores.

“The letter of confirmation from Samsung New Zealand only includes the Samsung washing machines traded at S.S.A.B. as S.S.A.B. is the only authorised dealer of Samsung in Samoa.”

According to reports from the United States, Samsung has received 733 reports of washing machines experiencing excessive vibration or the top detaching from the washing machine chassis.

The letter signed by Pacific Islands Area Manager for Samsung Ryan Jolly the top loader models being sold in North America ad reported issues with excessive vibrations during high speed spin cycles.

“Samsung has recalled these models in the US and Canada,” Mr. Jolly said in the letter.

“They are not sold outside of North America."

“As the safety of our customers remains our number one priority, Samsung Electronics New Zealand will continue to undertake due diligence with regard to this issue but reiterates that the top loader models sold in North America have not been supplied in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands (Fiji, Western Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Tonga, Cook Islands, Tahiti).”
