Don’t waste time because it cannot be retrieved.

Mulitalo Paulo Iosefo, 69, of Faleasi’u says this is the problem with so many people today.

They are unproductive because they waste too much time.

Mulitalo has four children. He was busy at his plantation yesterday when the Village Voice approached him for his thoughts on life in general.

“We are living in those days that our forefathers had warned us about,” he said.

“The days predicted by the Bible, the future is here and we all know nothing is easily gained until you work your way through it.

“Time is important, don’t waste it but do something good with it.”

At home, Mulitalo keeps himself busy with plantation and other chores.

“This is my wife’s aunt’s land; she offered it to us to live on,” he said.

“We used to live on the other side of Faleasiu on leased land.

“Now that we have moved here with my family, as a father I am trying my best at the moment to support my family.

“I’m planning on building a falea Samoa just so we can settle down and then we will build a bigger house.”

Paulo and his wife get help from one his sons working in American Samoa.

But he wants to continue to work.

“I don’t want to depend heavily on my son in American Samoa,” he said. “I have to work and it doesn’t feel right to just sit around doing nothing, it makes me feel old.”

“That is why I like working because it helps my body and it gives me energy.

“I consider myself as a hardworking person and honestly to those people who don’t like to work, I  don’t want to say anything about them because it’s up to them, if they want it or not.”

“They choose their own paths, if they don’t want to work it’s their fault, they chose that path so they will also face the consequences of being lazy.”

“I’m just glad I turned out to be someone fond of working, because my hard work will surely pay off in the future.”

And what is his advice for young people?

“Time is precious, don’t waste it.”
