Women in construction: It's not just a man’s world

Construction is an industry that is predominantly led by men. There are many reasons and statics that explain reasons why. For me, it wasn't something I dreamt of as a little girl.

I didn't sit back and think about what I could build; what project could I manage or make sure everyone was safe.

Growing up, I did understand what it was to work hard and to dream big that is what led me to where I am today.

One of the amazing traits that women have is that we are always looking for solutions. We seek opportunities to serve.

How can we make it better for those around us? It is just how we are wired.

For me, it wasn't until my 20s that I was introduced to the construction and safety industry and quickly I recognized a need and even greater was the opportunity.

Women in construction, it is not just a man's world. More and more women, like me, are moving into the construction industry. There are many women who have blazed the trail before us, who started the conversation.

It is up to us to keep the conversation going, to show up every day, to serve with excellence, lead with integrity and bring to the table what makes us as women who we are.

There are so many amazing opportunities for women to step up in the construction industries. As I look around, I am blessed to be surrounded by amazing women in the industry-leading every day. But there is room for so many more.

We cannot let the conversation die; we have to make sure that as women in the construction industry that we are empowering other women.

As our organizations grow, we need to reach back and pull up others and then push them to be better, to do more. Construction is not just a man's world!

As a mom, my girls are my WHY! Opportunity led me to the safety industry, but my WHY is what has taken me to where I am today. I want to make sure that the clients we serve every day that their employees make it home to their families every night.

When I step onto a job site, I see more than the scaffolding, the framers, the equipment and the tools.

I see each person; I think about their families those that they are responsible for, those they go home to every night.

That is one of the things that set me apart. I believe that is why women are so valuable to the construction industry; we think differently, we look at things from a different vantage point.

The message needs to be shared more and more, construction is not just a man's world, as women we have a place too.

I will always share my message; I know that if you dream big, work hard and never give up all that you long for can be right there.

You surround yourself with the people that push you, challenge you, are smarter you and focus on your growth and nothing can stop you.
