Those Sports awards

Dear Editor,

I hope this will be extended to the outside athletes and coach who are representing Samoa. There are so many young athletes who have been treated with such disregard by the members of S.A.S.N.O.C.

If the media knew how these athletes who have committed their time and sacrificed a lot to represent their country and trained in another country they will find that not only have these kids have been mucked around, but also treated like they are nothing but lint on a jacket.  The Pacific Games is coming up in Tahiti; athletes from NZ and Hawaii have been training in NZ with a former discus/shot put Olympian and Commonwealth competitor who represented Samoa.

Now you would think that because this coach who has trained them for years and would know how his athletes work and their routine that S.A.S.N.O.C. would select this coach and fund his fare to attend with his team to the Pacific Games, right?

No, instead they send a person who has no idea what he is doing, doesn’t even know how to throw a discus/shot put. He wouldn’t know what the kids’ techniques are, he hasn’t even met some of the athletes!  So why send someone who will not give the kids the right advice or advise them if their technique needs to be done better like this coach does at almost every competition that he has attended?

Also one promising and talented athlete was selected by the head coach to be part of this team and yet when her name was not part of the list for more info and it was questioned by our own coach, she was immediately accused by one of S.A.S.N.O.C. members of bribing the head coach in Samoa into placing her in the team?  When media was mentioned, things changed dramatically.  They need to change the members as they themselves have no idea what they are doing. When things need to be done to sort out their own errors, they tend to point the finger to each other and say who’s to blame instead of correcting their mistakes.

They don’t realise that the kids and their families who fundraise for these competitions suffer from S.A.S.N.O.C.s incompetent and unprofessional handling of our young athletes outside of Samoa.

This is coming from a NZ parent who has experienced S.A.S.N.O.C.’s incompetency.
