Where are your priorities?

Dear Editor,

Re: Commissioner, change management and the fa’amatai

Well said. Let me add, I never lived in Samoa, but I am Samoan and I do read your paper among others on a daily basis and some of the problems in Samoa shocks me. I’m also disappointed when the PM says utterly stupid things like Samoa does not have poverty...what?!

Although, Samoa proclaims it’s love for God and they make statements that our country is founded on God and they pray everywhere, in the beginning and ending of everything, they seem to ignore and lose sight of the fact when it comes to the care and well being of others...I don’t get it.

Then too, they hide behind the Fa’a Samoa and Fa’a Matai system ... heaven forbid if someone says anything negative about it...then you’ll have the entire village come after you.

That’s all they do, use it when it’s convenient...so sad!

Fa’a Samoa and Fa’a Matai is meaningless, if on one hand you espouse to be proud of your heritage and tradition and set it on a pedestal, while on the other, you have children who are street peddling and women and girls who are raped, by their fathers or faifeau....which is worse?

This or someone making a harmless statement about your “Fa’a Samoa/Fa’a Matai” that doesn’t put food on your table, roof over your head or clothes on your back?

Where are your priorities?
