Samoa is about the people

Between the cold of Melbourne and Samoa’s tropical heat, Harry Smith knows exactly where he wants to be.

Yesterday, with a cold drink in hand and his sunnies on, he was reveling in the atmosphere of the Teuila Festival, in the heart of Apia.

Harry is in Samoa for the first time with his girlfriend to attend a friend’s wedding, this weekend.

When Dear Tourist caught up with them, they were sampling some local food.

“This is our first time here and I am happy that I have finally come to Samoa, thanks to my friend for the invitation to his wedding,” he said.

“I have always known about Samoa and that it was in the Pacific, however, I never really knew about the attractions so that is why this five-day trip is very exciting for me and my partner.

“We want to know more about Samoa in terms of the culture, the food, the history, and so much more, even though we are only here for a short time.”

And looking at the excitement of the Teuila, he reckons they couldn’t have picked a better time.

“We were driving past and we saw this so we decided to stop and look around,” he said.

“Now we know it’s the Teuila Festival which we are very excited to be part of, we want to come and try out some local food and we also plan to enjoy the live music.

“It is such a beautiful place. The people are very friendly, like, they say hello to you when you walk by with that massive smile on their faces and that just made my day.

“It’s different back home. The people here are so relaxed and happy. I can see they are stress-free; all the people want is to be happy and free, not like home where it’s always busy with work and everything else.

“But here, people actually stop and enjoy life which is very important. So we are very excited that we have come on the right time.”

The weather is fabulous.

“Samoa is beautiful, it’s warm and personally, I have been sick recently, but the weather is beautiful and especially the drive along the coast here is absolutely beautiful.”

Satisfied with what they have seen so far, the couple said they will definitely recommend Samoa to their families and friends.

“They have to come, but they also have to choose the right time to come, so that they would be able to find all that they need to know and learn about the island.”
