Quality Education is her passion
Quality…and make sure you spell that with a capital letter and don’t forget education.
That’s the instruction from Miss House of Gold, contestant number nine in the McDonald’s Miss Samoa Pageant 2017.
For her pageant platform, Alexandra Iakopo has picked ‘Quality’ education, which comes as no huge surprise.
“We have an education system, but what Samoa needs is a little more emphasis on quality education, in terms of effectiveness,” says the 23-year-old Qualification Officer for the Samoa Qualification Authority.
Educated in Samoa and a graduate of Colorado Monarch High School in California, USA, as her parents -- who are devout Catholics, Deacon Isaako Iakopo and Mrs Fagamalama Iakopo -- follow their callings, Miss House of Gold is ready for the unexpected.
“I have faced challenges that have strengthened my faith, and I am eager to grow as an individual, serve and share my culture with the world, and contribute to the sustainable development of Samoa,” she says.
Now armed with a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Samoa, Alexandra started as a hotel receptionist before taking up NUS studies where she did an internship with the NUS Governance Policy Planning Unit and as a Support Officer with the House Disability Division at the Australian High Commission.
She is the second youngest in a family of three brothers and one sister.
