Former Manu Samoa coach, Namulauulu Alama Ieremia, is sad to have had to resign from the role but he has not forgotten the generosity of the Samoan people towards him and the team despite the disappointing result. Today, he writes to say thank you Samoa:

I came home to help the Samoa Rugby Union and assist the local rugby scene into the next exciting era of development plus competitions.

So amongst the challenges for Samoan rugby and the changing landscape for Pacific Island rugby, I hope I have offered some valuable systems and strategies for the future.

I was realistic about the expectations for Manu Samoa as the transitioning of old and new players was fundamental for years to come. This would take time as the World Cup is still two years away and there are still opportunities to qualify. However, the Board think otherwise and I have to accept that and move on because results are important.

I would like to thank Our Heavenly Father for giving me strength to do this privileged job - it has been enjoyable and testing. However, it has helped me grow not only as a coach, but also as a proud son of Samoa.

I would like to thank the the Honourable Prime Minister our Chairman, the C.E.O and staff of S.R.U for their continuous support throughout my time. A special faamalo goes out to all the Manu Samoa loyal fans both locally here and overseas. Although I feel your frustrations, I have never questioned your unwavering support, so thank you - malo le onosai, malo le faato’ato’a, faafetai le lagolago i lau Manu Samoa.

Finally, to the Manu Samoa players and management, it's been a pleasure. Thank you for the positive review and feedback survey. You are a good team and I urge you to keep striving to become not only the best players but also become better people. We know positive things are not far away around the corner, so work honest and work hard to learn from the lessons of the past.

Lastly, it’s been a difficult few weeks for me personally and for my family.

To my families and friends, fa’afetai lagolago, fa’amalo le lototetele - thank you always for your undivided love and support. This experience will make me stronger for the future.

Fa’afetai Samoa, soifua ma ia manuia.
