Out of desperation and love for mum

It’s Mother’s Day, and today, all mothers will be spoiled with gifts and presents from their children.

People throughout Samoa will have different ways of showing their affection for their mothers.

For Daisy Kiuli, the three-year old was out in the boiling sun yesterday, hawking goods for sales, so her and her mother could buy a nice to’onai today.

“I’m doing this so me and my mother, Lima, can get money for to’ona’i,” said Daisy.

“We always come to town and sell our products, but today (yesterday) I am selling on behalf of my mother because I want her to rest.

“The only thing she needs to do is to break the big notes for me because I don’t really know how to count.”

Being on the streets to sell goods is not something that Daisy likes to do.

“At first, I only come because my mum always brings me with her when she sells her products. And then I joined her and started helping her with what she does.

“But I don’t like being on the streets. Some people scare me away and some people always say bad things about my mother to me, and I don’t like that.”

However, Daisy said on the brighter side of things, people always give her free food every day, free drinks and money.

“And I give all the money I get from people to my mother.”
