Smiles of success as fishing tourney closes

A wonderful week of fishing and fun ended yesterday when the curtains fell on the 20th Samoa International Game Fishing Tournament.

Just like the start, the closing at the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum reunited the anglers and tournament sponsors where they celebrated sweet success.

One of the week’s biggest winners was Team Fu’a II, which netted some of the tournament’s best catches, with more than four big yellowfin tunas.

But for the competition’s host, the tournament was also a great success.

“We are absolutely satisfied with the outcome of our event,” said S.I.G.F.A President, Kevin Kohlhase.

“After a few struggles in the beginning, everybody enjoyed their time on the boats and in the end, that’s what it is all about.”

But not only the organisers were satisfied, the anglers themselves only had great things to say about the tournament.

“I have attended the tournament seven times now, and as in every year, the tournament was full of comradery, friendship and lots of great catches,” said Angus Hume from team Viking. During the prize giving, the organization gave away more than $125,000 in terms of prizes.
