Sanele Mao wins gold for Samoa at Commonwealth Games
Sanele Mao has won Samoa’s first gold medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Mao reigned supreme in the final of the 105kg mens division during the Weightlifting on day five of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games at Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.
Mao had a total of 360kg in the snatch and clean and jerk to finish eight kilos clear of Singh, while England's Owen Boxall won bronze after lifting a combined 351kg.
The 32-year-old stepped up to the 105kg category after competing in the 94kg category in Glasgow.
Mao won silver at the 2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championships.
Mao’s gold adds to Don Opeloge’s silver medal on Saturday night.
