The Samoa Touch Rugby Incorporated wasted no time in kick starting their 2018 tournaments.
Last weekend was the start of their “Touch the crown opens tournament” at the St. Joseph’s College fields in Alafua.
The tournament will be held within eight consecutive weeks with teams from the men’s, women’s and mixed division vying for the various prizes.
Samoa Touch will host the “Business House Touch Championships 2018” during the weekdays, which began on Monday evening as part of their goal to build and develop local players for the upcoming tournaments such as the Touch World Cup 2019 and Pacific Games 2019.
Tournaments by the Samoa Touch Incorporated also focus on raising awareness for Touch Rugby in Samoa in addition to encouraging female participation in the development of the game.
Samoa Touch President, Michael Wulf said one of the successful achievements of the Samoa Touch Rugby this year is of the number of women’s teams that have registered so far.
He acknowledged the St Joseph’s College team for participating this year in the men’s division, which supports their strategic goal in encouraging youths to take part in touch rugby.
He hopes this will interest more youth teams and colleges to participate in the touch rugby tournaments.
Nine teams have confirmed their spot in the “Touch the crown tournament” men’s division, eight teams in the women’s division and nine teams in the mixed division.
Wulf added last week’s tournament displayed some fresh talent and great games from all teams.
“The tournament is open to all who wishes to support and watch for the next eight Saturdays at 3pm, S.J.C. fields, Alafua,” he said.
