New Attorney General– report
Samoa has a new Attorney General and a Director of Public Prosecution office, according to reports.
Radio New Zealand reported yesterday that the Cabinet decision was finalised before the country went to the polls last Friday.
Attempts to get an official confirmation were unsuccessful yesterday.
The former head of the Attorney General's criminal division and senior lawyer, Precious Chang is the first Director of Public Prosecution to be appointed after Parliament last year separated the criminal prosecution division from the Attorney General's office.
The police prosecution is now under the Public Prosecution office.
Meanwhile, a New Zealand-based Samoan senior lawyer, Herman Retzlaff, who is the son of the former Attorney General and former senior politician, Misa Telefoni Retzlaff, has been appointed as the new Attorney General.
He is replacing the former A.G, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, who did not seek re-appointment under a three-year contract.
