Confirmation that the Diabetic Clinic is reopening will be welcome news to the many people who suffer from this disease.

The Director General, Ministry of Health, Leausa Toleafoa Dr. Take Naseri said that the Clinic at Matagialalua will be situated on its former site.

However exactly when this will happen, is not clear.

Leausa said it depends on their new Minister of Health who is appointed after the General Elections in March.

“Last year, the Latter Day Saints offered to run the place,” he said.

“They had negotiations with their members but the result was that their main office in Utah, wrote a letter to their office here in Samoa, saying that they cannot lend to any organization.

However, Leausa said despite this, the Ministry decided that they would reinstate the clinic.

“So we will run the place again,” he said. “We have already given our budget proposal to Cabinet so we are waiting on that.”

“We will still have it at the same place at Matagialalua, but at the same time, we will be looking for somewhere to move to because that area is being developed by government.”
