TIUMALU MANŌ PALU II: Tautua candidate for Siumu District.

TIUMALU MANŌ PALU II: Tautua candidate for Siumu District.

Tiumalu Manō Palu II is contesting for Siumu District as a member of the Tautua Samoa Party.

According to Tiumalu he said there is only one reason why he agreed to run for the General Election next month; to change the government.

“I have always wanted to change the Government,” said Tiumalu.

Tiumalu believes that the only way to change the government is to support the Tautua Party.

The new Tautua member candidate is contesting against the current Member of Parliament Tu’u’u Anasi’i who is a member of the Human Rights Protections Party.

“Tu’u’u is my friend but he cannot speak what’s in my mind and what I know,” said Tiumalu.

He said there are so many things that he disagrees with particularly the decisions made by the Prime Minister and the Government.

“It’s time to make a change,” he said.

Tiumalu elaborates on the most two important reasons he feels are not right for Samoan people.

He talked about the current Land Transport Authority bill that has just been passed in parliament.

It includes giving the power to the L.T.A. Officers to just take your vehicle when you don’t abide by their rules, and you pay a fine at the office before they release your vehicle and if you don’t show up within 30 days they have the power to sell it.

“I don’t agree with this Bill,” said Tiumalu.

Tiumalu said he finds it too harsh for the people because they pay a lot of money for these vehicles and LTA are granted the power to sell it and give you just a bit of that money.

Tiumalu also said the increase in the  number of fees to register a matai title is too much for our people.

“They increased it 100% which is not good,” said Tiumalu.

“Why didn’t they increase it to 10% or 20% but this is too much, from $40 to $100 to register a new Matai titled is just too much.”

He also said there is a lot of unemployment especially amongst the youth. This is another issue that he feels should be the target of the new Government.

They should push the children to school to get better education and ensure that they will be able to get employment to support their family.

There is also the land that needs to be developed which is another source of income to support families.

The unemployed youth needs to be encouraged to farm their vacant land as it is another fast way to earn money for their families.

The 57 year old Tiumalu said there are many individuals from his village who feel the Government needs to change.

He said there are four of them contesting for the Siumu seat in Parliament but he is the only one running as a Tautua member.
