The New Zealand High Commission has given a new van to the Loto Taumafai Society for People with Disabilities.

Acting New Zealand High Commissioner to Samoa, Nick Hurley, attended a special assembly to hand over the keys to the new vehicle.

The 16-seat van will be used to transport students living on the south coast to Loto Taumafai and back during the week days, enabling them to directly improving access to the education and learning opportunities, which are made available through the work of the Society. 

“The New Zealand High Commission in Samoa is a long-time supporter of Loto Taumafai and we are delighted to see that this van will help ensure the important work they do for children and young people with disabilities continues,” said Mr. Hurley. 

As well as the increased capacity that the new van will create when transporting students, it will be an addition to the Loto Taumafai fleet and provide a more modern vehicle, with more modern safety features. It should last the Society for the next five to 10 years. 

“A significant component of the day-to-day service at Loto Taumafai is student pick up and drop off,” said Maiava Leta’a Dan Devoe, the chief executive officer of the Society. 

“Ensuring safe transport is not a barrier is hugely important in making sure all of our students — wherever they live — are able to fully participate and make the most of the schooling and services available at Loto Taumafai."
