Show your support, wear a sei pua

07 October 2016, 12:00AM

Please wear a sei pua and a pink ribbon today, Friday 7 October, to show your support for Cancer Fighters and Cancer Champions.

This is the message from Kilisitina Best, President of Samoa Cancer Society.

“By wearing a sei pua and a pink ribbon, we remember our loved ones lost to cancer and support those that are living with cancer.”

Sei Pua Day is an annual event when the Society sets up an information booth and stall and this year, we will be down at the SNPF Plaza in the open courtyard area.  Volunteers will be there selling sei pua and pink ribbons.

Staff will be on hand to explain how the Society can help cancer sufferers and their families, the general public and health professionals.

Volunteers will be in the city streets selling trays of pua and ribbons.  Businesses have been asked to support this day by displaying the Sei Pua Collection Tin and sei pua and asking for donations from staff and customers. “The Pua is our symbol of hope in the fight against cancer,”

Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Samoa.  The aim of the Society is to reduce the number of people who develop cancer, and ensure those affected by cancer have the best possible quality of life.

Medical information and palliative care support services are available at the Society’s National Cancer Resource Centre.

“We have a Patient Support Officer to offer information and guidance for people who suffer from cancer and their families,” Samoa Cancer Society Executive Officer, La-Toya Lee said.  “The Centre is open 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and offers a comforting experience free of charge.”

The Centre has a selection of reading materials covering different types of cancers that focus on prevention and caring for those suffering from cancer.

The Society provides talks  and workshops on cancer awareness to village communities, schools, churches, workplaces and service organisations as part of its Outreach and welcomes any enquiries regarding its programs.

If you would like to know more about the Samoa Cancer Society call the Centre 23984, email the staff at [email protected] or visit the Sei Pua Day stall 9am – 1.30pm Friday 7th October at the SNPF Plaza.
