Slower pace, smiles and sun

Meet the Walker family from Australia who have only been in the country for just two days.

Steve, Tanya, Aria and Sophie Walker are here to experience a different country that none of them have been to.

In terms of the couple’s professional backgrounds,  one is a teacher who has lived in Tonga and the other a gardener who has lived in Fiji.

Accompanied by their two daughters, the couple chose Samoa to see a different lifestyle from what they are used to.

“We wanted to see how Samoa is different from other Pacific islands and we are very happy that we chose here because it is worth the trip,” said Mr. Walker.

“We have tasted the delicious food and especially enjoyed meeting with the friendly people.

“It’s just amazing how when you go past anyone they always give you a big smile and hello.

“That is something we don’t get back home.

“Life is much slower here and that it gives people the chance to actually stop and look around and enjoy what they have in life.

“And of course it’s much warmer because it’s freezing cold back home.”

Mrs. Walker agreed with her husband and said Samoa is so green.

“It’s clean too and I love how you guys have gardens everywhere. While the sun is out and even though it’s hot, it’s much better than being cold,” she said.

“People appreciate what they have and by the looks of it as long as they are happy, that is the most important thing despite the challenges that they may face which everyone goes through.”

Mr. Walker said they haven’t had much time yet to look around too because they have only been here for two days.

“We are planning to go out into the villages and to Tafatafa Beach on Saturday,” he said.

“But I believe you have white, sandy beaches and my girls are also looking forward to swim and enjoy the sun.

“But in the long run, we will definitely recommend Samoa to our friends and families back home and hopefully we’ll  get to come back for a visit and hopefully plan to stay a little bit longer.”
