Samoans in Canada show pride in their country
You can take a Samoan away from Samoa but you cannot take Samoa away from a Samoan. Where ever they go.
Indeed, Samoans living in Canada might be thousands of miles away from home but that doesn’t mean they have forgotten who they are.
So when Samoa paused last week to commemorate their 56th Independence Day celebration on the streets of Apia, a group of Samoans in Canada gathered in Victoria British Columbia for their own celebration.
Muavae Va’a said they have a small Samoan community and they wanted to commemorate the occasion.
“We tried every year on June 1st to celebrate our Independence day together with our people at home,” Va’a said.
“This year is even more important as our community here stand united with our families at home for the safety and the protection of our customary land!”
