Family’s prayers answered

God answers when you least expect it.

For Malaga Kovati, it began when her family’s struggles featured in the Village Voice in May.

Malaga pleaded for a job.

“I desperately need a job because as the mother of the family, I feel how painful it is to work for your family, alone,” she said.

“Every day, our responsibility is making sure our children are well fed and that they are in school.”

“Our Women’s Committee had a camp and what we discussed was what we need in our lives and in my mind, I said to God, ‘Give me a job’,” she said.

“As a woman, when you see your husband trying his best to make a better life for your family, you want to help him out with that as well and that’s why I’ve been praying for work to come my way someday.”

“I have 12 children and one of them is a baby. I feel that whenever we can afford milk for him every day, it’s a miracle considering the fact we barely have money.”

“We also have to pay $100 a month for the land we are currently staying on because it belongs to the Samoa Land Corporation.”

“We are also struggling with the no electricity and no water situation.”

“We already paid for our electricity on the 4th of February but whenever we call the Electric Power Corporation about this, they say they are not up to our area yet.”

“For water, we get water from our next-door neighbors.”

“We’ve been staying here for a year now and not much has changed.”

“I don’t just want a job, I need a job. I need it to help my husband, my children and especially my baby.”

Fast-forward to now, Malaga has been blessed with an opportunity to work for the Central Bank of Samoa.

But that’s not all. When the Village Voice visited Malaga’s family yesterday, she was at work while her husband Lesoa Kovati, was working on cementing the floor of their house.

Mr. Kovati spoke on his wife’s behalf.

“My family and I are thankful to God for answering our prayers; that is for my wife to get a job.”

“You know, after the day you interviewed my wife for your Village Voice, right on the very next day, my wife got four phone calls from people that wanted her to work for them; including Central Bank.”

“Central Bank was the last call and they contacted my wife around 2 o’clock on that same day, to come in to the office to talk and discuss her situation.”

“When she came back, she came back with great news because she got the job. “

“Now it’s almost a month since she’s been working as a cleaner and it’s been a blessing.”

“My wife goes in the morning and she gets dropped off by the ministry’s vehicle after work.”

“So as you can see, we are already working on some of the things that we needed to change and develop in our home; like cementing our floor and we have finally gained access to electricity.”

“These were some of the things my wife and I have been dreaming of doing but we couldn’t afford it.”

“We are truly thankful to the Governor of Central Bank and their management team for giving my wife an opportunity to work because it is from this job that we are able to start with these small developments for our family.”

I would also like to acknowledge your Editor in Chief and your management team because without your work, no one would know of our situation.

“It was through your programme that she pleaded for a job and it is through your newspaper that good people and ministries like Central Bank got to see how much my wife needed a job.

“So I thank God for his love and I thank you all for your work and kindness into helping my family.”
