Darius Boyd and Greg Inglis scored first-half tries and Blake Ferguson added another in the closing minutes to give Australia a 16-0 win over New Zealand in a rugby league test Friday at Hunter Stadium.

Australia, which led 10-0 at halftime, was never threatened in the match marking former star center Mal Meninga's debut as national team coach.

It ended a three-match Australia losing streak against the depleted Kiwis, who were missing 10 players through injury or suspension.

Cameron Smith, captaining Australia for the 21st time, kicked a second-half penalty before Ferguson barged over for a late four-pointer in the right corner.

New Zealand forward Adam Blair was put on report for a 62nd-minute illegal tackle on Brisbane Broncos teammate Sam Thaiday.
