Plans for Netball Samoa Development Academy

07 April 2016, 12:00AM

One of the new initiatives for Netball Samoa this year is the establishment of a Netball Samoa Development Academy (NSDA) which will provide development, education and support structures for athletes, coaches and umpires to easily integrate to the next level of the elite athlete pathway and focuses on individual development.

The program follows three core strands that promote holistic athlete development.

The core components are:

• Technical and Tactical Skill Development;

• Physical Preparation;

• Athlete Wellbeing.

The Objectives of the NSDA Program is to:

• Provide an elite, holistic program that focuses on the development of the individual athlete and their ability to contribute to a team environment;

• Deliver a best practice training program based on the Netball Samoa Development Academy Curriculum and designed to maximise the potential for elite performance outcomes;

• Provide a clear and well communicated development pathway for athletes;

• A training environment that is delivered by highly qualified coaches and support staff.

The program will run from 23rd April to 25th June 2016.  The target athlete groups are 14-18 year old athletes. Open to female and males.

At the completion of the NSDA program, a Secondary School Girls Competition will be held every Saturday morning similar to the current Primary School Girls Competition.  CEO Rosemarie Esera is confident participation in the Academy will only add value to the secondary school competition as well as the National Netball League planned to start in May.  We already have a group of 10 players from the Aleipata District joining the Academy.  Rosemarie continues to say that we are calling upon some of our experienced players in the national netball league if available to come and share their knowledge and experiences and mentor the players in the Academy.

Open Day and Registration for the Netball Samoa Development Academy will be as follows:

Savaii 15th April, 10-1pm,  Don Bosco College

Upolu 16th April, 1-3pm, Gym 3, Tuana’imato Sport Complex.
