THANKS FOR THE WARNING

Voters struggled to hold back their laughter when waiting in a line to cast their votes in a village outside of Apia on Friday morning.

The reason?

It was the bizarre warning from a police officer who had been standing just inside the doorway of the hall which was being used as a polling booth.

With a quick look at our largely silent group, he said he knew who we all were and if there was any trouble, he would prevent us from casting our votes.

Given that the 'dangerous' group he was addressing was waiting in near silence and consisted of two mothers with babies, several very elderly men and women and a range of middle-aged citizens, it did seem rather over the top!
