Remarks by Hon. Faimalotoa  Kika Iemaima Stowers Minister for Women, Community  and Social Development

I wish to use this opportunity to convey our sincerest gratitude to the People’s Republic of China, through the Embassy in Samoa and the Hunan International Business Vocational College for Continuing to support the development of Samoa and its people. 99 women and men have been trained, skilled and developed – to become seamstress and fashion designers, through your kind assistance.

Of this number, 20 were from Savaii and 19 were offered advanced training here in Upolu. Thank you for believing in our people and trusting our systems, in continuing the advancement of modalities that will see Samoa achieving not only the SAMOA Pathway, but also the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

I have asked the trainees to keep up the good work and strive for excellence knowing that in due course, the Ministry will follow up on their developments and ensure that they have sold only clothes, and not the resources and sewing machines.

I wish you all the best on your return to your country and hope that you will continue to offer this assistance to our people in years to come; or better still, take and support 100 people to migrate to China to be trained on not just sewing, but all the arts and crafts that will advance their socio – economic development.

Once again, faafetai tele lava.

Soifua ma ia manuia.
