Ability not disability

No matter the circumstances you face in life; where there is a will, there is always a way.

Tupese Tupese, 26, from Vaitele is a walking testimony of this truth.

Mr. Tupese is a deaf-mute person, but despite this, he still works to support his family.

Village Voice met Mr. Tupese while he was waiting to catch the bus to go to work last week.

Mr. Tupese said he worked because his family needed his help.

“And, I am working because I love working,” he admitted.

“I am making $200 per week from working in a bakery downtown and that’s my contribution to my family’s survival.”

Mr. Tupese said his disability does not bother him at all when he is doing  his work and in his family setting.

“I was born like this and I have never treated myself like I have special needs, I just enjoy being normal and doing what normal people always do.”

Mr. Tupese said despite the high cost of living in Samoa, he was working very hard to earn more so that his family could cope with the expensive cost of living.

“It is really expensive here and I have to work hard so my family can get by.”
