Never take employment opportunities for granted.

These were the words of 43-year-old Tumua Feleti Futialo of Lotoso’a Saleimoa.

“There are people out there who are dying to be employed,” Tumua said.

Tumua, a father of five, can’t work because of his health, despite his hopes to do so.

“I’ve always wanted to work,” he tells the Village Voice.

“But I can only work part time because of my condition (ma’i gugu).

“At the moment, I work in the plantation so I’m good at jobs like clearing the land, planting crops and other things like that. Currently that’s my way of earning a living to support my family.

“Honestly I can work fine whenever I feel good, but when my condition gets worse then I can’t do anything but stay at home.

Tumua completed his education at Leva’ula College and from then on he’s been staying at home and working on what his family has.

“It’s also not possible to get one of those good jobs without a certificate right?”

Tumua is asking for assistance from the public.

“If anyone is willing to offer me a part time job to work their plantation, I can do it. I am a hardworking person despite my condition. I just want to make this clear because I don’t want anyone to think that I don’t need a job because I honestly need a job.

“I just want to earn a little bit of money for my kids because as you can see, we are still developing everything in our lives.

“I know my situation is complicated because of my health, but even if it’s only a short period of time, I will make sure to be honest in doing my work. I may not be as strong as other people but I can do a good job.”

Tumua said hopefully he could get a good job so he could rebuild his home to make a comfortable living for his sons and daughter.
