The Samoa Qualifications Authority (S.Q.A) is in the process of consulting with all stakeholders in the development of the Post School Education and Training (P.S.E.T) Strategic Plan 2016-2020.
Minister of S.Q.A, Loau Keneti Sio, will officially open the Stakeholders’ consultation today at the Samoa Convention Center – T.A.T.T.E Building, Sogi.
The main objectives of the consultation are:
1. To validate the work completed so far on the development stage of the plan
2. To consider P.S.E.T Strategic Plan Goals and expected results indicators and;
3. To discuss the respective roles and responsibilities of principal stakeholders in the achievement of P.S.E.T Strategic Plan Goals
More than a hundred representatives from key private sector organisations, government Ministries and Corporations, non-government organisations, and P.S.E.T providers have been invited to participate.
The current P.S.E.T Strategic Plan covers the period 2008 – 2016. Since its development there have been important changes, especially the development of the new SDS 2016-2020, the UN SDGs 2030, and the integration of all Samoan education and training within the Education Sector Plan 2013- 2018.
In the light of these significant changes the S.Q.A has commenced the development of a new P.S.E.T Strategic Plan. A series of consultative workshops have already been conducted to discuss and confirm P.S.E.T sector priorities and to agree on the vision that will lead to a set of P.S.E.T goals that are fully aligned with S.D.S., S.D.G.’s and E.S.P. strategic objectives.
Elements of a draft P.S.E.T Strategic Plan, incorporating the inputs from the first set of consultations, have been developed for validation and there is now the need, through further consultations, to consider PSET strategic objectives and expected results.
The Samoa Qualifications Authority (S.Q.A.) is the principal organisation mandated to provide policy advice, regulate, quality assure and coordinate Post School Education and Training (P.S.E.T.) in Samoa.
More specifically, one of the S.Q.A.’s mandated functions is to monitor and report to government and the P.S.E.T. sub sector, on the activities, resourcing and overall performance of the sub-sector in relation to national strategic goals for economic, social and cultural development. The P.S.E.T. Strategic Plan consultation process is an integral aspect of S.Q.A.’s mandated role.
