Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Matt DeCourcey, is coming to Apia for the Pacific Leaders Forum.

Samoa is one of the legs of his trip, which includes a visit to Fiji.

Parliamentary Secretary DeCourcey is scheduled to meet with representatives of Canadian businesses operating in the region, political leaders, non-governmental organisations and representatives of multilateral agencies to discuss issues of mutual importance.

He will highlight the immense challenges the region faces with regard to climate change and the leadership role that the Pacific Islands Forum and Pacific Island countries are playing in addressing these challenges. Parliamentary Secretary DeCourcey will also engage on shared priorities, such as women’s empowerment and sustainable development.

“Canada is committed to sustaining our important ties with the Pacific Islands region,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to an open and frank dialogue with our friends and partners in the region as we look to address shared challenges together.”
