Power outage hits Upolu

All areas in Upolu, except for the National Hospital at Motootua, some parts of Apia to Mulinuu were affected with an unscheduled power outage yesterday morning. 

According to a statement posted on the Samoa Electric Power Corporation (E.P.C.) Facebook page, the power outage started at 10.15 am.  

The statement said there was a fault with one of their hydro generators at one of their rural hydro power stations, which resulted in the power disruptions in various parts of Apia.  

It further said that restoration works have begun on areas affected and for areas that were still affected, a notice will be put out to advise of extended hours to current power outage. 

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused,” read the statement on their Facebook page.  

Meanwhile, as of yesterday afternoon, power was restored in parts of Motootua, Leufisa, Malifa, Maluafou, Aai-o-Niue, Tamaligi and the area behind the Cathedral Mulivai - Laulii-Letogo to Lalomauga.
