The Year of the Blade!

The Samoa touch rugby association as concluded its National Open Club competition for 2017 and the local touch rugby scene has again been headlined by the Pauli Ivan Williams led touch rugby club “The Blade Runners” who have ended the 12 year running streak of National Mix Champions the No Idea.

The Blade runners who finished the pool games last, went on an unbeaten run into the finals, including beating No Idea in the Quarterfinals. Blade went on to beat Meitaki in the Mix Finals, Meitaki touch rugby club were very impressive in this year’s finals.

The Dj and Lerissa Fong led outfit, made both this year’s Mix and Open Men’s Finals.

In the Open Men’s Category, the Marist Saints were again back to back Champions going undefeated the entire tournament. The upset of the tournament was New National Woman’s Champions Glee, upsetting the reigning National Woman’s Champions Titans in a thrilling match going all the way to sudden death.

Led by National Reps Lote Lima and Sabrina Reupena, the Glee woman’s have set the standard all season long.

President for the Samoa touch association Lemauga Hobart Va’ai says “I’m truly excited by the state of Touch rugby in Samoa, especially when new teams are challenging the reigning champs for their titles, Congratulations to Glee, Blade runners and Marist saints as this year’s champions.

But also congratulations to Meitaki and Titans for such a great season. I look forward to this year’s NPC, where East, West and QSTA where all our elite talent will showcase their talent”.
