Sounds like a plan

Dear Editor

Re: My solution to save Samoan rugby

#3 and then you call it NZ “B” ?

#1 (replace everyone in SRU ?)

Well even if we get Moses and the prophets to run our SRU it won’t make a difference .

It’s about juniors development (u6-u16) That is the answer. The current school program is very weak .

1. There are no clear pathways

2. The schools programme starts late ie U12/13?

3. The school programme doesn’t cover the whole of Samoa.

An old problem from 30yrs ago only schools in the town area. Lots of kids are missing out in Savaii and outer villages.

4. SRU visits to Savaii/Kua to conduct coaching”clinics” is just a temp visit .

If we look at all the tier 1 nations ,(NZ/Aus included )their rep teams and academies are from  successful junior development programmes (U6-17)

In Samoa programmes should cover the whole country (Falealupo -Aleipata)

A junior development will not only be for players but coaches administrators and volunteers.

Samoa can send a fact finding mission to AusNZ during rugby season to see how they run/administered such comp, from club levels, region, state to national.

NRL junior clubs in Sydney (Parramatta or Penrith) are the best junior leagues we can learn from and for rugby Northern Sydney juniors clubs.

The result of such development and competition will give us the pool of players to choose from.

A rep side can be selected from 1000 players from across Samoa instead of 70 from Apia area only .We will have the depth in all positions (well developed local players)

It’s not an overnight fix but it’s a permanent solution.

It’s only then I will be very upset if we lose to Tonga and Wales B

Go Manu
