The Samoa Victim Support Group (S.V.S.G) is working in partnership with the Australia Pacific Technical College (A.P.T.C) to train caregivers in Samoa.

They are doing this through a training programmme launched this week.

President of S.V.S.G, Siliniu Lina Chang, says the initiative adds value to the work of the Group in providing care and love for the community. For the Group’s Patron, Tuisugaletaua Sofara Aveau, this is an exciting step for the S.V.S.G.

“This will be a great support service not only for the elderlies but the special needs community and the children,” he said.

He added that the training being conducted this week on caregiving would help the community.

“This work is not known to many because there are people who are doing it daily,” he said. “With this programme, participants will extend their knowledge and learn some more techniques about carrying out this work.” A.P.T.C’s Country Manager, Pat Vella, said the training provides a life skill for every day living.

She said the training will assist people who are often at home caring for family members.

For the first training held in Upolu, there are 30 participants. Siliniu acknowledged the kind support of sponsors such as ANZ Bank, CCK, Federal Pacific, Lesa’s Telephone Services, Tagaloa Aolele Godinet and others.
