Make every moment of your life count

Mailo Peteru knows life is not easy and that is why he doesn’t want to just sit around and wait for things to happen.

The 42-year-old uses every second of his life to do something productive for his family.

“I love my family and I put them above everything else,” he told the Village Voice.

“Through that I know it will bring many blessings in the future.”

Life can be tough and difficult, he admits.

But love overcomes anything.

“Love is what guides our actions and I love my family,” he said.

“So no matter how many challenges come my way, I will never give up working to make a living.

“I want to have enough money each day to live by and I want my family to always have what they need.”

When the Village Voice team arrived, he was building a house at his other land in Leauva’a.

“I’m moving to tend our land here and I’m trying to build a house here.

“I want to make sure the land here is safe. Because every time I come and visit our land I always find Taula and Vailima bottles around the area.

“Even with my fence every corner is falling down. So I made up my mind to move here permanently.

“This is also the land where we grew up, and I have my family’s memories here.”

Mailo says it’s also a great land to continue on with his farmer skills.

“I’m trying to build my house first and later on I will be filling this whole land with my plantation.

“It’s good thing leaving alone because I don’t worry about anything. I have my own developments to rely on and I’m still young. Forty two is just a number.

“I’m not like other people that they want everything to be handed out to them, because let me remind you, that’s not how it’s supposed to be we are living in a life that we ought to work to make sure we survive.

“And that is why we see a lot of people asking around for help, some are just pretending they suffer just because they don’t plan their life straight.

“So my advice to everyone is to work hard and depend on your own developments for the betterment of our families.”
