The start of the New Year is already a positive one for Tania Andersen Cornwall.

Travelling to Samoa for the first time, the woman from Auckland, New Zealand, says her experience so far has been nothing short of adventurous.

Mrs. Cornwall and her children were planning to visit Singapore, but her children’s past experience of our island nation lured her to set foot on our shores.

She was enjoying her last day in Samoa yesterday relaxing by the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel poolside when the Dear Tourist team caught up with them.

The 39-year-old noted the huge difference between Upolu and Savai’i.

She was fascinated by Savai’i and how strong the culture is and some historical sites also including the friendliness of the people. Into her sixth day in Savaii and she is already impressed with the beautiful beaches.

“We stayed at the Le Lagoto in Savai’i and it was just beautiful,” she said.

“I love the culture and the people, the lava fields. There is a difference between Apia and Savai’i. I think there is a lot more access to beaches for us in Savai’i, but when you drive around Upolu you cannot really see the beaches.”

Mrs. Cornwall says everyone is very welcoming. Tania says they will return because just like her kids, she too loves the island life.

“We were already talking about our plans for next time when we come again to visit. The kids love it here and it sounds like the place that they want to be in. They adapt very quickly and picked up some of the language.”

The mother of two said everything was easy to get to except when they got to the Samoa Shipping Corporation where they had some complications because they cannot book in advance and also the long queue at the ticket booth.

“Well it was only when the boat was close by, where we could see it coming was the time when we could buy the tickets and everyone would just line up which was really packed.”

Mrs. Cornwall says she will also miss the locally made food because they were tantalizing and something that she will find hard to forget.
