Road conditions saddens father from Solosolo

With the arrival of the wet season, there are two obvious signs in Samoa.

Potholes everywhere and bad roads.

Taiatu Penaia, 53, of Solosolo, believes these things should have been dealt with a long time ago.

And yet Samoa continues to suffer every time it rains.

Mr. Penaia said life is great and all is well except for the bad roads.

“All is well here except the bad roads we have including the roads to the plantation,” he said.

“The problem with the road here is not new because it was once fixed but it is now back to what it was like before.”

Mr. Penaia also emphasized some of the problems that have been caused by this road.

“Few families in our village that had access to their plantation using their vehicles have stopped because of the roads.

“Families are aware that their vehicles cannot afford to handle the tough conditions so they have given up.

“For the long run, people will suffer more, not only will their cars break down but they will also suffer finding money to fix their vehicles.”

Mr. Penaia believes the government needs to act.

“The rainy season has arrived and we are afraid because it’s only going to get worse,” he said.

“The road will continue to get damaged from flooding and get more slippery.

“The people will also be experiencing difficulties in transport from coastal area and inland because of the bad roads from the rain.”
