Alaese Tumua Fereti, of Sale’imoa, needs help.

She needs a better and safe shelter for her and the family.

She lives together with her husband Fereti in a little shack with five kids, all below the age of 10.

The family has been living there for three years.

“We used to live with my husband and their family in their house around the coastal area but issues erupted few times between him and the siblings so we decided to move here and develop our small family,” she said.

Alaese said her husband’s cousin from New Zealand contributed financially with their house they have right now when they first moved there.

“That was the only money we had and we used it to buy the woods we could afford and clearing the land, and we collected corrugated roof iron that were disposed to cover our roof.”

Alaese also confirmed to Village Voice that she and the husband don’t have formal jobs but they mostly depend on their land for food and money.

“We both don’t have jobs but we only work our land to plant taro, bananas and all those sorts of stuff for our food. Sometimes my husband’s family brings us food.”

She is grateful for the free education system within Primary Schools.

“I am also thankful that schools don’t pay school fees anymore or else my kids won’t be in school because I really can’t afford it at all,” she said.

Alaese said they have water supply but no electricity.

“The water is running well here in this location except that we don’t have access to the electricity and we are using kerosene lights and solar light when it’s night time,” she said.

Alaese is coping with so much in her place and she really needs help given the conditions and situation she’s in at the moment.
