President of Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B.), Fiti Leung Wai, has dedicated their Pinktober Campaign to her sister, Atamamao Toleafoa, who is a survivor of Breast Cancer.

The official launch of their Pinktober Campaign was held yesterday at their Conference Room at Togafuafua.

It was attended by members of the public as well as the Samoa Cancer Society, Country Manager for A.N.Z. Bernie Poort and his team, Miss Samoa Papalii Alexandra Lakopo and Samoa Events Inc and Miss Samoa/Pacific Alumini.

Mrs. Leung Wai in her speech said their October promotion was called “Ata’s Pinktober Promotion”.

“When S.S.A.B. was asked to be part of Pinktober, I had no hesitation to lend support,” she said.

“I support this cause because there are people close to my heart who have fought their battle with cancer."

“I am not only affected by their struggles but more importantly, their strength has inspired me to do more than just making small donations."

“One of these people whom I dedicate our Pinktober contribution to is my older sister, Atamamao Toleafoa, who lives in Utah."

“She was diagnosed in November, 2010; her breast cancer quickly progressed from Stage 2 to Stage 3."

“She is of the L.D.S. Faith and a week before her mastectomy, she sent one of her daughter’s on her church mission to England."

“She continued with her operation and followed through chemotherapy losing all her hair."

“Her husband came home early from Iraq to take care of her and her other daughters cut their hairs to make wigs for their mom."

“She is such an exceptional person in the sense that she has a big heart and is one of the most loving people I have ever met.'

“Knowing that she fought through this disease with so much heart and determination to live for her family, leaves me inspired and wanting to do more in life.”

“So here my dearest sister Ata, I dedicate this Pinktober special to you to let you know that I care and love you. In addition to this, I also want to spread the love to our cancer patients here in Samoa and do our bit to help.”

Another person that inspired the President of S.S.A.B. to contribute to cause is Manamea Apelu-Schwalger.

“I had donated some money towards one of her treatments,” she said during the launch.

“She was appreciative because she came a couple of times to try and say thank you but I wasn’t on the island.”

Mrs. Leung Wai added from that moment, she realized that aside from their prayers, a lot of them didn’t do much to support the Samoa Cancer Society or the patients affected with cancer.

“It’s only when people close to us are affected with this deadly disease, that we feel the need to do something, and I must say after I spoke to Mana my heart wanted to do more for her, my sister Ata and also our Cancer Society.”

Mrs. Leung Wai reminded those present they needed to do their bit to show all cancer patients their love and support through the Cancer Society and spreading awareness with the hope to save lives.

“We know the impact of losing our loved ones stay with us for a long time,” she said.

“So here we are, S.S.A.B. totally committing to supporting our Cancer Awareness month, October."

“Sales on most pink products in the shop and part of the proceeds from our sales will be donated to the Samoa Cancer Society and we will also be making a donation to Manamea to support her fight."

“We are also hosting a facebook competition where people can win some great prizes.”

Mrs. Leung Wai acknowledges the supporters and partners of Pinktober Awareness for cancer.
