The island of Savai’i has laid out the red carpet for the contestants of the 2018 Miss Samoa Pageant.

The nine contestants travelled to the big island on Monday on Samoa Shipping Corporation-owned vessel Lady Samoa III and were met on arrival, before they were invited to a welcoming ceremony where an ava exchange ceremony took place to mark their arrival.

Miss Susana o Samoa, Sonia Piva, said they were speechless at sight of the beautiful welcoming ceremony that the people had put on for them.

“The girls were crying, weeping tears of happiness and overwhelmed of what they have seen from the exit of the ferry to the places where they are currently staying."

‘‘We feel so special and how the people are treating us here and it’s making us do our very best for them."

Prior to the arrival of the contestants, communities in Savai’i were seen putting up decorations and cleaning the area in preparation for their arrival.
