A young couple from Faleasiu-uta is asking the government for help.

Vaoita Setu said they desperately need water. 

The couple live inland where the government’s water supply is inconsistent.

 “It hasn’t been that long since we moved here and it’s a great place to settle in, compared to where we used to live,” Vaoita said.

“It was too crowded with my husband’s family but here, we have all the space to ourselves and it gives us a better chance to plan how we are going to develop our family.

“Our life is great here especially since we are at the first stage of developing our small family, it may be challenging but we are satisfied with everything we have here.”

But there is one problem, Vaoita said.

“One issue that has been bothering us for a very long time now is water,” she said.

“We have water but the problem is it doesn’t run all the time, it always gets shut down and when it’s down it can take up to two months before it comes back on. 

“It’s very frustrating especially when we always pay our water bills on time.”

The mother said she feels its unfair that they pay the bill when the water doesn’t run consistently throughout.

“If they want their money, they should do their work properly and provide what we are paying for. We are not paying with peanuts, we are using our hard earned money.”

Vaoita said they have contacted the Water Authority several times.

“When they respond, they turn our system back on but just for a very short period of time and the next thing we know, the water is off again. We are tired of this.

“So my plea to the government is please do something about this matter.

“Water is life and we need it for our everyday needs. If you want us to keep paying our bills, provide some water please.”

Vaoita and her husband Sosaiete Polataivao have their own house.

Everything is fine but they are desperate to sort out their water problem.
