Electricity issue forces temporary closure at A.C.C. Building

Business was disrupted at the Accident Compensation Corporation (A.C.C.) building yesterday morning as a result of a problem with the power supply.

Workers in the building had to leave their workstations for a period of time.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour declared a day off.

It was not possible to get a comment from the Chief Executive Officer of the A.C.C. or the General Manager of the Electric Power Corporation.

However, the Ministry of Commerce left a note on their main entrance to inform members of the public about what was happening.

“Due to the power outage, M.C.I.L wishes to advise the public that it’s office will be closed on Monday 4th September 2017 and will re-open for usual business on Tuesday 5th September at 9.00am,” the notice reads.

A security officer told the Samoa Observer the power had been off for most of the morning.

“The power was only restored midmorning,” he said.

“All employees of government ministries and the bank were waiting outside the whole morning.

“I think they (government ministries, businesses and staff of the National Bank) returned back to work except for the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour.”

The A.C.C. is responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of the A.C.C. five storey building at Matafele.
