You have been warned

Members of the public have been warned by the Land Transport Authority (L.T.A).

You are breaking the law if you fail to comply with road traffic signs.

A typical example is how people continue to ignore a recently installed pedestrian crossing in front of Eveni Store on Beach Road. Instead, they continue to cross at random which has killed people in the past.

A disappointed father of two, Atapana Peleti, told the Samoa Observer that many people still cutting through the road in between the S.N.P.F. Plaza and the former Agriculture Store Building; making it a complicated matter for drivers passing by that area.

“There’s already a pedestrian crossing being set up between the Plaza and Development Bank,” he said.

“There’s even one across the Bistro and the market so I don’t know why it’s so hard to just use those.

“People really need to think about their safety on the roads and cross on pedestrian’s crossings that have been provided for them.”

When the Samoa Observer contacted the L.T.A. for a comment, they reminded that failure to comply with traffic signs or directions of an A.T.O. or Police officer is an offence.

“Pedestrians who fail to comply with road traffic signs and/or the directions of an ATO and/or Police Officer, commits an offence under the Road Traffic Regulations 1961 and is liable to a penalty fine of SAT$100.00,” the L.T.A said.

“There is a pedestrian crossing that has been installed recently along Beach Road at Apia in that area and everyone needs to use it instead of cutting through the shortcut.”
