Samoa attends fisheries meeting
Cabinet has approved the report on the Ministerial meeting on fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance efforts in the Pacific region that was held in Honiara in the Solomon Islands on 16 – 17 June 2016.
Issues discussed at the meeting were the Niue Treaty Subsidiary Agreement on Fisheries Surveillance and Cooperation; Observer programme; information management and the Pacific Maritime Security Programme.
Samoa was represented at the meeting by the Minister of Finance, Sili Epa Tuioti and Fisheries Senior Officer, Ueta Junior Fa’asili.
Help for Cricket
Cabinet has approved financial assistance of $10,000 for the Samoa International Cricket Association.
The fund will help the association prepare for the upcoming Women’s Cricket Tri-Nations World Cup Qualifier tournament in Apia on 13 – 23 July 2016. The winning team from this tournament will represent the Asia and Oceania region at the World Cup Tournament in 2018.
Teams from Australia, Japan and Papua New Guinea are expected to compete in this month’s tournament. The tournament will also help develop the sport in Samoa.
