ANZ Pacific C.E.O Vishnu Mohan has decided to retire after 40 years in the banking industry spanning eleven countries across the Middle East, North America, Africa, South East Asia and most recently the Pacific.
Mr. Mohan’s last day will be 30 April 2016.
ANZ Group Executive and C.E.O New Zealand, David Hisco, paid tribute to Mr. Mohan.
“Vishnu has steadfastly helped build ANZ Pacific into the strong business that it is today,” Mr. Hisco said.
“In particular, Vishnu passionately and diligently helped build ANZ’s significant presence in Papua New Guinea and he’s been a great advocate for the development of Pacific nationals. We’ll always be grateful to him for that.”
Mr. Mohan, who has been at ANZ seven and a half years, started his career with Standard Chartered Bank in 1977 and held many senior positions including country C.E.O roles in Ghana, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
With the Papua New Guinea business now reporting through to ANZ Australia and the rest of the Pacific business through ANZ New Zealand, Mr Mohan has in recent weeks developed a new business strategy for the region.
He said with that now completed it was time for him to pass on the mantle.
“I’ve loved every minute of leading ANZ Pacific, but it’s now time to do something else with my life and spend more time with my family,” he said.
“Every day we help Pacific people get ahead in their lives, whether it’s starting up a business, trading with the world, saving for a home or retiring in comfort. ANZ staff across the Pacific make a huge difference to the lives of ordinary people and I’m really proud of that.”
Mr. Hisco said the current Head of Commercial in the Pacific Saud Abdul Minam would become Acting Country Head – Fiji and a formal process for filling the role would commence in due course. He would also look to fill a new role, Regional Executive Pacific Islands, very soon.
Mr. Hisco said a key part of Mr. Mohan’s new business strategy was simplifying the business for customers, simplifying reporting lines across ANZ Pacific and streamlining processes for customer facing staff.
“These simplifications are being done to create more distinct country focused service models based on improving our customer service. We will continue to look for collaboration amongst Country Heads across the region, create more promotional opportunities for locals and reduce bureaucracy wherever possible.”
He said all these changes were subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
