Salelologa Rugby says thank you

With a team member in the Manu Samoa, the Salelologa Rugby Union is full of appreciation for the help of everyone who made their trip to the recent Marist Sevens a success.

“On behalf of the players, their families, Itu Malo a Salelologa, supporters and Savaii generally, I would like to thank our generous sponsors for reaching out in the last minute to ensure that a developing team from Salelologa is exposed to the Vailima Marist International Rugby 7s Tournament.

The experience and exposure gained by the players was invaluable especially when the trip was almost cancelled due to financial constraints,” says Matamua Junior Salima.

“Being the ‘under-dogs’ of the tournament, the fighting ‘Toa’ spirit of Savaii prevailed and that resulted in being the Bowl winners against our fellow ‘usos’ from Saasaai. Malo lava le onosai ma le tauivi!"

“A morale and confidence boost for these young yet gutsy players was being awarded the Player of the Tournament to team member, Elisapeta Luoao.

The meeting of Manu Samoa’s National Coach, Sir Gordon Tietjens, whilst the Bowl Finals was being played was a welcomed and humbling surprise for all players, including myself. This has had a major impact on the mental preparation for other upcoming tournaments this year.”

Matamua wanted to acknowledge the Minister of Finance, Sili Epa Tuioti, Pipi Taimalie Charlie Westerlund, Tevesi and Salu Burgess, Seumanu Douglas Ngau Chun, Papalii Tomasi and Rosita Mariner and Alex Vaai of Eveni Caruthers.

A picture is worth a million smiles from the grateful Salelologa 2017 Rugby 7s team.
