The President of the Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters (S.A.M.E.), Tautaituasivi Tagaloa Wilson, has announced the commencement of the S.A.M.E.-Samoa Export Awards 2018.

The project is an initiative of S.A.M.E. and supported by M.C.I.L. and their Private Public Sector partners.

The Awards administration and coordination of the judging will be carried out by M.C.I.L.

The Export Awards is aimed at supporting the S.A.M.E. Samoa Export Plan 2016-2020, launched in December 2016 by the Minister of Finance/Government of Samoa and Partners of S.A.M.E. in the Public and private Sector, as well as the Australian High and New Zealand High Commissions.

The S.A.M.E. Export Plan has as its overall objective to achieve exports of $100million by the year 2020.

The Export Plan isconsistent with the Strategy for Development of Samoa (S.D.S.) document which had been released at the same time.

The Export Plan also sought to address the weaknesses in export growth and isconsistent with the strategy of linking investment with trade development.

The Export Plan focuses on narrowing the significant gap in Samoa Trade Deficit, increase Samoa’s Foreign Exchange Reserves, Increase Employment and improve the well-being of Farmers and Communities in the rural area for Samoa.  Samoa’s Exports represent less than 10% of its Imports.

In all small developing countries exports are a key driver to achieving the level of economic growth necessary for on-going improvements in critical services such as Health and Education

The objectives of the Export Awards are:

Recognition and Reward for excellence in exporting

To encourage and stimulate exporting activity

Raise awareness of Samoa’s Trading Partners of Samoa’s products and services

Build greater understanding what is required to succeed in exporting

Build partnerships between government and private sector to support export growth

Encourage Innovation amongst Manufacturers, Exporters and Services
