Minister of Education, Sports and Culture gave speaks on behalf of the Government

Taumeasina Resort hosted a farewell dinner for the Samoa under 17 Football Team that will be heading to Tahiti for the OFC Championship stage 2 commencing to be held from February 11th - 24th 2017. Team Samoa will take on New Zealand, Fiji and the Solomon Islands.

The Minister of Education, Sports and Culture honorable Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio delivered the keynote address at the dinner where he not only encouraged the team but he also urged them to use the opportunity wisely. “You are all still young, now’s the time to become a hero and inspiration to other youngster’s. Pray, train hard, work hard, fight for the best, you never know maybe in the next four (4) to five (5) years’ time you will be contracted to one of the luxurious clubs in Europe; so ensure that you make use of the opportunity now” 

The Samoa under 17 team won the preliminary stage last year in July. Coach Desmond Fa’aiuaso stated that he is confident that he has selected the best team; he will not make any promises but believes this is an excellent opportunity to expose our local players. The team has been training for more than a year to date so he is confident that his team will perform well. 

The two top teams from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Under 17 Championship will proceed to the U17 World Cup which will be held in the India in October this year.
