The beginning of 2017 has seen the family of Lolani and Filiorosa reunite at the village of Utuali’i.

With a few members still yet to arrive, there was not one sad face in the area as the family finally saw one another after many, many years.

With three years of planning and complete faith in God, the reunion is the best way to kick off 2017. Family spokesperson, Apera’amo Lupe Matasila Mamoe, said the gathering is a time to thank God for making the event happen.

“It’s been a while since our whole family has been together again and so we left it to the Lord whether or not we will have this reunion and now here we are,” he said.

Apera’amo said the reunion took a while to organise but it’s all worth it now that everyone is together again.

“This reunion has been in the making for about three years now and it’s great to see everyone here,” he said. “This family is scattered all over the world and it’s great to see all the familiar faces again. Today (yesterday) we start this reunion and I look forward to what we have planned for this week.”

Although there isn’t a theme, Apera’amo says that the significance of the reunion is to remind the children of their roots.

“The theme for this reunion is just to bring the family together again,” he said.

“We also want to show the children their roots and how this family started out. It’s important to know where this family started out.”

The seven generations of family members will enjoy a week of zumba, laughter, fun and games.
