For the first time, this year’s 3rd annual Samoa Ne’i Galo will take place during the Teuila Festival in front of the Government building this Wednesday and Thursday.

Organised by the Ministry of Education Sports & Culture with the support of its stakeholders, it is a lively celebration of Samoan culture and traditions through an annual competition for all Secondary Schools in the country.

Samoa Ne’i Galo emphasises the practice of Samoan traditions and customs, as an integral part of the education system.

It is a tool by which the authenticity of Samoan culture is safeguarded and passed on to future generations.  It provides a platform for young people to engage in traditional and modern cultural expressions; it enhances cultural awareness, respect and understanding of Samoan culture & practices among Samoa’s youth; and it aims to mainstream Samoan cultural heritage as part of national development initiatives.

The four main categories for this year’s competition are the Ma’ulu’ulu, Fa’ataupati, Solo (Samoan Monologues) and Lape highlighting the wit and skills of our faaluma.

As observed in previous years, there is a Special Award for the College that upholds the Samoan values of reverence and respect throughout the two day event.

Ten colleges, Avele, Faleata, Leifiifi, Sagaga, Wesley, Leulumoega Fou, Aleipata, Sanele, Maluafou and Anoamaa are competing this year.
