The Land Transport Authority (L.T.A) Traffic Officers will soon be using their new electric scooters.

The  scooters were launched by the Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure,Papali’iNiko Lee Hang, last week. He commended the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment,Fiame Naomi Mataafa, for prioritising L.T.A. with electric scooters.

Six electric scooters were presented by M.N.R.E to L.T.A during the handover.

“I want to make a special thanks to the Minister for prioritizing L.T.A rather than the Police because we believe that they are wreckers (au talepe mea) who have crashed numerous police vehicles over the years,” Papali’i said.

“The C.E.O will make sure that these scooters will be put to use and in the hands of his reliable men to look after.

“One thing I also want to request is that these scooters should have been given to all the Ministers to try it out,” he joked.

The gift was funded by Austria and Italy through the International Union for Conservation of Nature (I.U.C.N.).

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of M.N.R.E, Fiame said the scooters are designed to be more environmental friendly.

It is also a part of the drive by the ministry to reduce harmful gas emissions.

“As we all know, gas emissions from fossil fuel is one of the main contributors to climate change affecting the world including Samoa,” said Fiame.

“May these assets be useful to the work of L.T.A. in serving the country and may it be put to  good use.”
